Why this bottle
This comes off the Henry Albert vineyard, planted in 1998, and only the best parcels make the cut. Eighteen months in French oak hogsheads precedes a final barrel selection, and the concentration shows. Mocha, chocolate, coffee bean, soy, florals and spice sit over mulberry, blackcurrant and juicy plum, with fully integrated oak. Violets and aniseed emerge on the palate, and the tannins are silky rather than firm. Balanced, intense and elegant — a wine with finesse that will give pleasure for a decade or more.
