Next Bottle began with a simple observation: the wines people remember are rarely the ones they drank alone. They are the bottle someone opened because you came over. The one that made a Tuesday feel like an occasion. The one still being talked about long after the glasses were cleared.

So we built a wine business around the table rather than the cellar.

Why six bottles

Most wine is sold one bottle at a time, which is a strange way to sell something made for sharing. A single bottle is a purchase. Six is a decision about the season ahead — what you will pour when friends arrive unannounced, what goes on the table at the next long lunch, what you hand over when someone deserves more than a card.

Six also lets us pack properly, ship economically, and give you a genuine range to taste across. You learn more from six bottles than from six separate occasions.

Why South Australia

We are based in Canberra, but our wines come from South Australia — the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Coonawarra, Langhorne Creek and the Adelaide Plains.

There is a reason. South Australia holds some of the oldest continuously producing vines on earth, in soils that were ancient before most of the world's celebrated wine regions were planted. It escaped phylloxera. It has growers whose families have farmed the same rows for a century and a half. When a region has that much time behind it, the wine carries something a newer place simply cannot fake.

Extraordinary wine begins with an extraordinary place.

How we choose

We are a curated list, not a catalogue. Every wine here earned its place — many carry scores from James Halliday, Wine Orbit, Wine Pilot or Campbell Mattinson, and several come from single vineyards and old-vine parcels that never make it to a supermarket shelf.

We would rather carry two dozen wines we can each speak about properly than two thousand we cannot.

More than a bottle

Every package we send is built to be an experience rather than a delivery. Wine chosen with intention. Chocolate matched to it by a chocolatier down the road in Murrumbateman. A curated playlist behind a QR code on the box, so the evening has a soundtrack without anyone having to think about it.

Good wine leads to great conversations. Everything we do is in service of that.
